There is an increasing number of drone flights, along with questions about permissions when flying near an airport. This time, we provide you with the answers to this question and essential information gathered in one place.

Before taking off, it is crucial to understand the regulations governing drone operations near airports.

Portorož Airport operates within controlled airspace, meaning drone flying requires careful adherence to specific guidelines. For a safe and legal experience, it is important to know the following:

  • Flying within 5 km of the airport reference point is strictly controlled and prohibits open categories A1/A3. Flying in a special category is permitted with operational approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Republic of Slovenia (CAA) and consent from the Slovenian Air Traffic Control (KZPS).
  • Beyond the 5 km radius, flights in open categories A1/A3 are allowed up to 50 m above ground level. Flying above 50 m above ground level is permitted in a special category with CAA operational approval and KZPS consent.
