The Airport Firefighting Unit of Portorož Airport attended an observation of the large-scale tactical emergency response exercise “AIRCRAFT 2026” on 14th October 2026. The exercise simulated an aircraft accident and took place at the air base of Jernej Molan Barracks in Cerklje ob Krki.

The exercise was successfully led by the 107th Air Base in cooperation with units of the Slovenian Armed Forces (the 15th Military Aviation and Air Defence Brigade, the Military Medical Unit, the Military Police, and the 14th Engineer Battalion), as well as numerous civilian civil protection and rescue services.

On the ground, forces joined together from the Krško Professional Fire Brigade, volunteer fire brigades belonging to the Brežice Firefighting Association, Brežice General Hospital and its wider network of emergency medical teams, the Police, the Brežice Regional Office of the Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (URSZR), the Krško Red Cross, and healthcare students from the Brežice School Centre (SIC Brežice).

Observing such a complex emergency response operation and the coordinated efforts of the various teams on the ground provided us with valuable insight into how these types of operations are conducted. We will put the experience gained and the best practices observed to good use in our own working environment, continuing to ensure the highest possible level of safety at our airport.

Our sincere congratulations to the organisers and all participating units for an exceptionally well-executed exercise!
